About Me

Hi, I’m Akhilesh E Kartha, a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV developer, technology enthusiast, husband, and father, currently based in Auckland, New Zealand.

Originally from Kerala, India, my journey has taken me from starting my career in the Dynamics NAV world to building a life with my family in New Zealand while continuing to work with a technology platform that has evolved enormously over the years.

Today, my interests go beyond simply developing software. I’m increasingly focused on Business Central, artificial intelligence, automation, building useful products, financial independence, continuous learning, and creating more time for the things that matter in life.

My Professional Journey

I have 17+ years of experience working with Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Dynamics 365 Business Central.

I started working with Dynamics NAV when the development world looked very different from today. Over the years, I’ve seen the ecosystem move from C/AL and traditional NAV customisations to AL extensions, APIs, SaaS, Azure, containers, automated CI/CD pipelines, Copilot and now AI-assisted software development.

My experience covers the complete development lifecycle, including solution design, development, integrations, upgrades, migrations, testing, deployment, troubleshooting and DevOps.

But technology itself isn’t the destination for me. What interests me most is using technology to solve real problems and make complicated processes simpler.

My Vision for Business Central & AI

I believe the way we develop ERP solutions is going to change significantly over the next few years.

For a long time, Business Central development has been about writing code, implementing business requirements and maintaining customisations.

AI is beginning to change that model.

I see a future where developers spend less time writing repetitive code and more time designing solutions, understanding businesses, building products and solving higher-value problems.

AI assistants, development agents, automated testing, intelligent monitoring, automated deployments and AI-powered ERP experiences will increasingly become part of everyday Business Central development.

My goal is not simply to watch this transformation happen.

I want to be part of building it.

I’m particularly interested in exploring how AI can work alongside Business Central to create smarter development tools, extensions, monitoring solutions and business applications.

Building Products, Not Just Customisations

Another direction I want to explore is building my own Business Central products and AppSource extensions.

After many years of solving customer-specific problems, I increasingly find myself asking:

Can this problem be solved once and turned into something useful for hundreds or thousands of Business Central customers?

That mindset is pushing me toward experimenting with reusable extensions, developer utilities, automation tools and AI-powered Business Central solutions.

Some experiments may become products. Others may simply teach me something new.

Both outcomes are valuable.

Why I Write

I created AkhileshKartha.com as my personal space on the internet.

It is where I document things I discover while working with Business Central — solutions to difficult problems, development techniques, experiments, DevOps ideas, integrations, automation and increasingly AI.

Many technical problems take hours or sometimes days to understand, but once somebody documents the solution clearly, the next developer may solve the same problem in minutes.

That is one of the main reasons I write.

I also want this website to evolve with me. Rather than being only a collection of Business Central tutorials, I want it to become a record of what I’m learning, building and thinking about as technology changes.

Life in New Zealand

I currently live in Auckland, New Zealand, with my family.

New Zealand has become an important part of my life and journey. Living here has given me a different perspective on work, family, time and what I ultimately want from my career.

While technology is a big part of my life, it isn’t the whole of it.

I’m a husband and a proud father, and spending time with my family is one of my biggest priorities.

Becoming a parent has also changed how I think about the future. Success is no longer simply about career progression or earning more. It is increasingly about having freedom, security, meaningful work and enough time to enjoy life with the people I care about.

 

What I’m Working Toward

Over the next chapter of my life, I want to focus on a few things that are important to me:

Build.
Create useful Business Central extensions, tools and potentially products that solve genuine problems.

Learn.
Continue exploring AI, cloud technologies, software architecture and whatever comes next.

Share.
Document what I learn and contribute useful knowledge back to the Business Central community.

Live.
Spend meaningful time with my family, explore New Zealand and the world, and make sure life doesn’t become only about work.

Looking Ahead

Technology will look very different ten years from now.

Business Central will look different.

Software development will look different.

And my own career will undoubtedly look different too.

I don’t have every step of that journey planned — and I don’t think I need to.

My direction is much clearer:

Keep learning. Keep building. Keep investing. Keep sharing. And create enough freedom to spend my time on the people and problems that genuinely matter to me.

That is what I’m working toward.
